Set your watch: the two weekly draws

New Zealand Lotto is drawn twice a week, on the same two nights, every week of the year (public holidays included):

  • Wednesday -- the draw goes at 8:20pm
  • Saturday -- the draw goes at 8:00pm

Both draws include the main Lotto numbers plus the Bonus Ball, and when you've added them, Powerball and Strike are drawn at the same time. Big Wednesday is a separate game with its own earlier schedule on Wednesday evenings -- different game, different odds, and one I cover separately.

The cutoff that catches everyone

Ticket sales close at 7:30pm on draw nights -- that's 50 minutes before Wednesday's draw and 30 minutes before Saturday's. It applies to shop counters and the MyLotto app alike. If you're late, your ticket simply rolls into the next draw, so there's no rush to panic-buy; the numbers on sale don't change anything about the odds.

A handy habit if you're a regular: buy your ticket the morning of the draw, or set a reminder for a few hours before the 7:30pm cutoff. It saves you the disappointment of being 10 minutes late with a handful of cash.

Where to watch and check

The draws are broadcast live on the official Lotto NZ channels, and the results land almost immediately:

  • Live stream and replay: lottonz.com, plus Lotto NZ's YouTube and Facebook pages
  • Results in the MyLotto app and on mylotto.co.nz the moment the draw finishes
  • In-store the next morning at any Lotto outlet

For the record, I always wait for the official result before updating anything on my side -- no leaky sources, no early claims.

One time zone, no confusion

All draw times are New Zealand time (NZST in winter, NZDT in daylight saving). The clock times above don't move when the season changes -- 8:20pm Wednesday and 8:00pm Saturday are fixed New Zealand times all year. If you're checking from overseas, just convert to your own zone and add the cutoff to your calendar.

The results are still there tomorrow

Missed the draw? No problem. Recent results live in the MyLotto app, and for the long game I keep the full NZ Lotto archive going back to 2001 -- every draw's numbers, prize divisions and payouts, all in one place. It's the same archive I use for every analysis on this site.

As always: play for fun, spend what you can afford, and if it stops being fun there's free help at Gambling Helpline NZ (0800 654 655). The draws will still be there next Wednesday -- they always are.

Quick answers

What time is Lotto drawn in New Zealand?

Lotto is drawn every Wednesday at 8:20pm and every Saturday at 8:00pm New Zealand time. Powerball and Strike are drawn at the same time when you've added them. Big Wednesday is a separate game with its own earlier Wednesday schedule.

When do Lotto sales close on draw night?

Ticket sales close at 7:30pm on draw nights -- 50 minutes before Wednesday's draw and 30 minutes before Saturday's. This applies both in-store and on the MyLotto app; a late ticket simply enters the next draw.

Where can I watch the draw or check results?

Draws are live on lottonz.com and Lotto NZ's YouTube and Facebook pages. Results appear in the MyLotto app and on mylotto.co.nz right after the draw, and in store the next morning.

Are the draw times in New Zealand time?

Yes. Draw times are fixed New Zealand local times all year -- 8:20pm Wednesday and 8:00pm Saturday -- and don't shift with daylight saving, so convert to your own time zone if you're overseas.

Can I still check results from old draws?

Yes. The MyLotto app keeps recent history, and Luckiwis hosts a full NZ Lotto archive back to 2001 with every draw's numbers and prize payouts -- handy for anyone who loves the data as much as I do.
