The night in three lines

Draw 2612, Saturday 15 August 2026, produced one of those evenings where lots of Kiwis won - but the biggest prize of all stayed unclaimed. The balls were 14, 15, 17, 22, 32, 40, Bonus 3, Powerball 9.

  • Powerball Division 1 ($12,000,000): no winner - it rolls to Wednesday
  • Lotto Division 1: one winner, $1,000,000
  • Strike Division 1: one winner, $700,000 (four balls in exact order)

All up, 322,851 tickets won something across Lotto, with a prize fund of about $2.88 million. Almost all of it went out in small amounts - that's the honest shape of the game.

What a $12M rollover actually means

This was the fifth time in a row the Powerball jackpot went unclaimed, which is why it sat at $12M. Rollovers are how Lotto NZ builds the headline numbers - and they do attract attention. The published 2026 record shows Powerball Division 1 has been won eight times so far this year, with the biggest single payout of $14.3 million landing in New Plymouth in April. If Wednesday's jackpot rolls again past $14M, it will be the biggest Powerball prize of 2026 to date.

For context, the largest individual Powerball wins in New Zealand history are:

  • $44.06M - Auckland, 2016
  • $42.02M - Waikato, 2021
  • $37.12M - Wellington, 2023
  • $33.05M - Christchurch, 2023
  • $33.01M - Auckland, 2013

The part nobody likes to say out loud

Here is the thing that never changes: a bigger jackpot does not make the odds any better. The chance of winning Powerball Division 1 stays at roughly 1 in 38.4 million no matter how many weeks it rolls. What rollovers do change is the size of the moment if you do hit it - and that is a perfectly fine reason to enjoy the ride, as long as the ticket stays within your budget.

Tonight 322,851 Kiwis got a little something, one got a million, and another got $700,000. The $12M waits for Wednesday. Every draw is a fresh shot - play for the fun, keep it affordable.
